On 15th February 2025, a group of Borders College students will depart for Tenerife at an International Experience Camp.

Students from Sport, Business and Health and Social Care will have 16 days experience in the Canary Islands to enhance their learning experiences in their chosen field.

The Sports Performance students will have on-pitch/track sessions and gym sessions in warm weather, during which they will look at skill development. Sports Coaching students will deliver sessions to local children while shadowing coaches from around the World.

Business students will be speaking to various local businesses to compare and contrast those from their local area whilst also looking at tourism is effect on the Island.

The Health and Social Care students will look at the Spanish system and compare it with that of Scotland and the UK. The students will also experience some of the island’s culture, including trips to Mount Teide and Santa Cruz.

While on the island, the students will also participate in a litter pick on a local beach to help minimise some of the negative impacts of tourism on the local environment.

The students have planted trees in the Scottish Borders to offset the carbon footprint of their flights to and from the Island.
