Student efforts praised at end of year DEBI celebration

Borders College Department of Enterprise and Business Innovation (DEBI) recently held its annual Celebration of Success event for all students who had achieved their qualification within the last academic year at SCQF level 6 or under.

The evening celebration saw staff, students, family, and friends gather and acknowledge the achievement of everyone through their hard work and determination. The students worked hard over the academic year, juggling work and their studies to achieve their qualifications, with help and support from the DEBI assessment team.

This year’s event saw those who achieved qualifications in Customer Service, Digital Marketing, Professional Development Awards (PDA’s) and Social Services and Healthcare, gather to recognize and celebrate their successes. Recognition awards formed part of the celebration, including:

Student of the Year

This year’s Student of the Year Award was presented to Glen Turnbull. Glen, from Hawick, was recognised as a student who had demonstrated success both in his award and in the workplace. Credited with going the extra mile to uphold the values of the College and his workplace, Glen was said to have a positive attitude and approach to everything he did.

Exceptional Achievement

The Exceptional Achievement Award was presented to Mia Thompson. Mia, from Galashiels, was recognised as a student who had surpassed expectations, working above and beyond the requirements of her award, and producing work of an excellent standard.

Special Recognition Award

This year’s Special Recognition Award was presented to Marion Thompson. Marion, from Galashiels, was credited with achieving her qualification through sheer hard work and determination. She persevered to achieve her goals through persistence and dedication.

Participants were welcomed by Borders College Account Manager for Contracts and Procurement Fiona Turnbull, who thanked everyone for attending, and congratulated them on their success. Director of Enterprise and Business Innovation at Borders College Jane Grant also spoke to guests and praised the students for their efforts in reaching their qualifications.

Account Manager for Vocational and Commercial Delivery at Borders College Susan Rennie handed out the certificates and Recognition awards, and had the following to say:

“We were delighted to welcome everyone to the Celebration of Success event and give students a chance to celebrate their achievements with family and friends. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and I would like to congratulate the students on reaching their qualifications.”

The College would like to give a special thanks to Balloons by Beth, who provided the fantastic decorations for the event.
