Lantra Scotland works to promote careers in land-based, aquaculture, and environmental conservation sectors, driving skills development and workforce diversity. The ALBAS highlight the outstanding achievements of learners, apprentices, and industry professionals while demonstrating the value of investment in skills and training.

Industry categories for the awards include animal care, aquaculture, environmental conservation, land-based engineering, equine studies, fisheries management, game and wildlife, horticulture, trees and timber, and veterinary nursing.

Borders College is strongly represented in three categories among the ALBAS 2025 finalists, reinforcing its commitment to delivering high-quality training and education in the rural sector:

Borders College, in partnership with Borders Machinery Ring (BMR) and Tarff Valley, is delivering a pre-apprenticeship course aimed at developing the next generation of agricultural professionals.

  • Lucie Shand (Animal Care, HND)
Studying at Borders College in Newton St. Boswells, Lucie has been shortlisted for her dedication and achievements in the field of animal care.

  • South of Scotland Skills Partnership
Borders College is working alongside South of Scotland Enterprise (SoSE), SRUC, and the Scottish Funding Council to improve access to education and skills training, ensuring a more responsive, integrated, and inclusive system to support economic growth in the region.

Andrew Johnson, Head of Sector at Borders College, commented:

“I am delighted that, yet again, Borders College Landbased and Rural Skills department and our students and partners have been recognised nationally by Lantra. I look forward to the awards ceremony in March.”
