Our Upcycle and Recycle course, offered as a popular evening class at the Galashiels Campus, allows students to explore their creativity while learning valuable sewing skills. On our most recent course, participants crafted a variety of unique items, from bags to patchwork teddy bears.

Course tutor Katharine Donald shared her thoughts on the experience:

“The upcycling classes provide students with the support and guidance they need to complete their projects while expanding their sewing knowledge and skills. Some students focus on one larger project, while others complete a series of smaller ones. We cover a wide range of techniques, including different seam types, bag and cushion constructions, inserting zips, mending, adding pockets, and making buttonholes. It’s an enjoyable and rewarding class.”

Our students had wonderful feedback to share:

“I really enjoyed the course and learned so much. My confidence in sewing has grown, and I picked up many new skills.”

“The tutor was fantastic. I learned a lot in a relaxed and welcoming environment.”

“Katharine is a superstar! She is incredibly patient and encouraging.”
