Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2025 will be held from 3 to 7 March, with the theme Made for Business.
This campaign highlights how apprenticeships benefit businesses, individuals, and Scotland's economy.
Developed in collaboration with employers, Scottish Apprenticeships equip people with the skills businesses need to thrive, making them invaluable for driving growth and innovation.
Apprenticeships play a vital role in expanding Scotland’s workforce, offering individuals the skills to succeed in dynamic industries. Currently, around 12,000 employers in Scotland support approximately 40,000 apprentices.
Foundation, Modern, and Graduate Apprenticeships are tailored to Scotland’s key sectors, providing opportunities for individuals to gain the expertise sought by employers.
Businesses report that Modern Apprenticeships enhance productivity and improve staff retention. Nearly 90% of qualified apprentices remain with the employer who trained them.
Modern Apprenticeship completion rates are strong, and research shows that apprentices often report higher wellbeing compared to the general population.
Employers across Scotland, regardless of size, are using apprenticeships to access talent and build a diverse workforce.
Additionally, over 90% of Modern Apprentices rate their training with employers and learning providers highly, underscoring the program’s success in preparing skilled professionals.
Fiona Turnbull, Accounts Manager (Contracts, Procurement and Employability) at Borders College, commented:
“Borders College supports modern apprentices in the Business Services, Child, Health and Social Care, Construction and Engineering, Land and Animal Management and Textiles frameworks. We currently have 335 modern apprentices in training in the Scottish Borders and other parts of Scotland. Our achievement rate is well above Skills Development Scotland benchmark and this is down to the dedication of our assessors and lecturers supporting our apprentices throughout their award to achieve their goal.
