This course is an ideal introductory qualification that develops the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed for work in the early learning and childcare sector. This qualification covers areas such as the Development and Wellbeing of Children and Young People, Play in Early Learning and Childcare, and Working in Early Learning and Childcare.

Delivery
Full-time 36 week course, up to 3 days per week college/online learning, 1 day per week on placement. This course comprises of lectures, group work, practical sessions, on-line resource self study and is delivered by vastly experienced professionals. You will assessed using various methods of assessment to meet the students needs, SQA requirements and college quality procedures.

Entry requirements
To be considered for this course you should have a minimum of: Four National 4 qualifications including English; OR Other equivalent qualification or experience at level C or above.Students will also be required to complete a PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) form.Due to the high volume of applications, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. A well-crafted personal statement will support your application.If English is not your first language, you should have a minimum of SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses, and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
Progression opportunities
As a result of successfully completing this course, you will have opportunities to progress to other areas of study, such as the Early Education and Childhood Practice SCQF Level 6 course or enter employment within a childlcare setting.
Application and Interview Process
On meeting the entry requirements, we will arrange a interview (online or oncampus). The interview process may include a one-on-one interview, a practical assessmen or a written task. You will also have the opertunity to discuss the course, placement requirements and answer any questions you may have. On the day of interview please ensure you present your qualification certificates to your interviewer.

Possible employment with Early Years sector in a support role.
Course Content
The Skills for Work Course in Early Learning and Childcare consists of 3 mandatory Units and 5 optional Units.
At SCQF Level 5, learners begin to prepare for working in the sector. They also develop transferable employability skills, including:
- an understanding of the workplace and the employee's responsibilities (eg time-keeping, appearance, customer care)
- self-evaluation skills
- positive attitude to learning
- flexible approaches to solving problems
- adaptability and positive attitude to change
- confidence to set goals, reflect and learn from experience
- skills to become effective job-seekers and employees
