The HNC Computing award is designed to offer candidates academic and technician training leading to the skills necessary to design, implement and support IT systems in a vast range of industries.

The candidates will develop a range of contemporary vocational skills relating to the use and support of IT systems.

The award provides a flexible curriculum to meet the needs of candidates in employment, recognising their existing experience and skills and will prepare students for progression to further study in Computing or a related discipline. This award is suitable for school-leavers, adult returners looking to train in this vocational field or individuals in employment who wish to pivot in their career.

Qualifications

Upon successful completion, candidates will achieve the following awards;

  • HNC Computing at SCQF Level 7

Some of the units included cover topics such as Team Working in Computing, Troubleshooting Computer Problems, Developing Software and Professionalism and Ethics in Computing.

Delivery

The course is full-time with delivery on campus over three days, for 36 weeks. There will be some hybrid learning opportunities and this will be flexible throughout the delivery.

Entry requirements

Applications should have one relevant Higher qualification at in Computing Science, Maths, Graphic Communications or other Science/Technology subject in addition to three National 5 qualifications or be progressing from a similar college computing course at SCQF Level 6.?

Applicants with equivalent or no formal qualifications will be considered on an individual basis and their applications or enquiries are encouraged.?

Previous industry experience is not essential but would be advantageous.

Applications will be reviewed by the curriculum team and candidates will be invited to interview to follow up on the information contained within to confirm suitability. A full, detailed personal statement is important at this stage.
