The HNC Childhood Practice (Practitioner Focus) is for applicants interested in a career in the early education, childcare or playwork sectors or for those wishing to pursue further study within Childhood Practice or Childhood Studies. Through studying this course you will gain the skills and knowledge to work effectively with children in a variety of care settings, learning how to apply the core values of social care to support their development and wellbeing.
This course will equip you with everything you need to confidently support children and families, combining practical experience with the essential theory behind great childcare practice.
Qualifications
HNC in Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7
Delivery
Full-time 36 week course, 2/3 days per week in college/online learning.
This course will teach the importance of play to children's development, leadership skills, a thorough understanding of child development theories, strategies to support children with additional support needs, how to understand and support children's behaviour, contemporary family issues, collaborative working and the importance of health, wellbeing and safeguarding.
You will be continually assessed through project work, essays, placement reflections, observations and presentations.

Entry requirements
Two highers at Grade C or above including English or Foundation Apprenticeship Social Services, Children and Young People or Early Education and Childhood Practice SCQF Level 6.

Application and Interview Process
On meeting the entry requirements, we will arrange a face to face interview with one of our Childcare lecturing team members. The interview process may include a one-on-one interview, a practical assessment or a written task. You will also have the opertunity to discuss the course, placement requirements and ask any questions you may have. On the day of interview please ensure you present your qualification certificates to your interviewer.
Due to the high volume of applications, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an interview. A well-crafted personal statement will support your application.
If English is not your first language, you should have a minimum of SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent for NC/NQ courses, and ESOL Higher or equivalent for HNC/D courses.
