For candidates employed in the childcare sector. Delivered online through an e-portfolio system, the Modern Apprenticeship in Social Services Children and Young People is great for candidates who are registering for the SSSC or those who wish to gain a formal qualification.

Qualifications

The course comprises of 4 mandatory units and 4 optional units.

The mandatory units cover the following areas:

  • Promote Effective Communication
  • Promote Health, Safety and Security in the Work Setting
  • Develop your Practice through Reflection and Learning
  • Promote the Safeguarding of Children and Young People

Optional units can be chosen based on the setting and the requirements of the candidate and employer. Subject include promoting the health and physical development of children, promoting the care of babies and children and managing a small-scale childcare business. Please let us know if you have any specific requirements.

To achieve the Modern Apprenticeship candidates must also achieve 5 core skills at SCQF Level 6 in Communication, Working with Others & Problem Solving and SCQF Level 5 in ICT & Numeracy.

Delivery

At your workplace - our Borders College Assessor will guide you every step of the way, meeting regularly and providing personalized tutoring and support. College premises in the Borders and other venues are often used for meeting up, or to access computer and library facilities. Assessors can also carry out observations on site. Candidates will have 10-11 months to complete their qualification. We work with people individually therefore start dates are negotiable.
