Modern Apprenticeship Professional Cookery - (SCQF Level 6)
The Modern Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery is a work based qualification delivered by direct observation and the production of a portfolio of evidence. Candidates are assigned an assessor who will support them through the delivery of this Modern Apprenticeship.
The course comprises of 2 mandatory units and 10 optional units. The units cover the following areas: Maintain Food Safety in a Kitchen Environment and Maintain the Health, Hygiene, Safety and Security of the Working Environment.10 optional units can be chosen from a range of options suited to the work place. To achieve the Modern Apprenticeship candidates must also achieve 5 core skills at SCQF Level 4 in Communication, ICT, Numeracy, Working with Others and Problem Solving. The candidate also has to pass one further accredited, legislatively and nationally recognised short course at a suitable level and appropriate to the job role e.g. Health & Safety at Work Certificate or Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate in Professional Cookery Routes where appropriate.
At your workplace - our Borders College Assessor will guide you every step of the way, visiting regularly and providing personalised tutoring and support. College premises in Borders & Edinburgh and other venues are often used for meeting up, or to access computer and library facilities.Start dates are all year round. We work with people individually therefore start dates are negotiable.
Candidates must be employed and working in a suitable environment to be able to provide evidence of their competence in the workplace.
